Will I still be paid for the work that I have completed? Expand Yes, you will always be paid for any tuition session that took place. All tutors should be paid for any sessions that took place in December by January 25th (please let us know if you have not been paid). Any work that was delivered in January will be paid by 25th February 2021. Please ensure that your registers are completed and up to date on Connect. If there is an error with your register or if it is not yet on Connect, please email your attendance data from the past few weeks to your Coordinator.
Will I be paid for any work I had lined up? Expand Tutor Trust relies on payment from schools; therefore, all the money we receive is for tuition hours that were delivered. If tuition is cancelled due to school closures, usual policy states that tutors will not be paid for the sessions planned. This policy will stay the same in current circumstances. Therefore, we unfortunately cannot pay you for forecasted sessions that will now not take place.
Is there any work currently available for Tutors? Expand We are currently uncertain about the impact school closures will have on tutoring. The situation is evolving quickly, but our hope is that we will be able to deliver a high volume of work online. Tutor Trust was a partner in the National Pilot of Online Tutoring in Summer 2020, and we are experienced in delivering online tutoring to pupils at home. We have well-developed procedures to ensure tutor and pupil safeguarding and high-quality online delivery, and we believe that many of our partner schools will choose to move to online delivery while schools are closed. If you are currently on an assignment or have an assignment that was due to start, your Coordinator will be in touch with specific details as soon as they have made contact with the school. Some tutoring may be postponed, but the government is aiming to reopen schools as soon as possible, and the hope is that pupils may return to school following the February half-term. Once pupils are in school there is likely to be a very high demand for face-to-face tutoring.
Are Tutor Trust providing any financial support for tutors who are all self-employed? Expand As a not-for-profit charity, we can only generate revenue through our services and therefore will not have the means to financially support tutors outside of paying them for their work. As tutors are self-employed and not employees of Tutor Trust, they are unfortunately not included in the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (‘furlough’).
Can I receive financial support from the Government as a self-employed worker? Expand The government has extended the Self Employment Income Support Scheme which was first introduced in March 2020. We encourage you to follow their guidelines. For more information and to see if you qualify for this scheme please follow this link: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-a-grant-through-the-coronavirus-covid-19-self-employment-income-support-scheme
Will training still go ahead for new tutors? Expand Yes. We still expect there to be many opportunities to provide tutoring this academic year, both in-person and online, so will ensure all new tutors are fully trained as expected.
Will you still process my references and DBS? Expand Yes. We still expect there to be many opportunities to provide tutoring this academic year so will complete the recruitment process so that tutors are ready to start when possible.
Will the fact I'm unavailable to tutor at the moment affect my chances of getting assignments in the future? Expand We know social distancing measures, isolation and sickness will make some people unavailable for work at this time. These interferences with normal life will not rule you out of assignments in the future. Please do keep us informed as to your availability as and when circumstances change so that we know how many tutors we have available for work at any given time.
