Mike Fitzpatrick Trainer Expand Mike Fitzpatrick currently works in Initial Teacher Training at the University of Manchester on the PGCE Secondary Course. Liaising with partner schools and colleges, he oversees recruitment and selection and delivers sessions in classroom skills, behaviour management and voice coaching. He writes and researches in the areas of spiritual, moral, social and cultural judgements (Ofsted) and the Arts in Education. A graduate of the University of Manchester, he gained an M.A. from Loughborough University specialising in curriculum innovation, leadership and management of schools and drama in education. With extensive teaching experience, Mike worked in three high schools in two local authorities in Lancashire and Manchester. He held posts as subject leader, head of faculty, senior teacher and most recently deputy head in a large high school with responsibility for staff development, teaching and learning, NQT induction and middle management coaching. As a member of the Drama Board (A.D.B.) and visiting examiner, he contributed to the development of assessment and testing at GCSE and A level Theatre Studies. Mike is passionate about the Tutor Trust, ‘It fulfils a number of key issues in education; to facilitate intervention, boost progress, alleviate disadvantage and expand aspirations. Carmel Kellett Secondary English Trainer Expand Carmel has recently joined the Tutor Trust as an English trainer. She taught English for 17 years in a variety of schools in Essex, London and Derbyshire. She currently works at the University of Manchester as a PGCE English Secondary tutor and is also involved with training on the Teach First programme. Carmel works for a leading exam board in a variety of roles. She is a senior examiner for GCSE English Literature. She is a CPD trainer which involves delivering a range of English based courses nationally and more bespoke training to individual schools. She also works closely with schools in Sheffield and Derby on behalf of the exam board in supporting them with teaching and learning for GCSE and GCE. Carmel has written articles that are focused on practical strategies to support trainee teachers in the English classroom. She has also designed some teachers’ resources for Cambridge University Press to support the new GCSE specifications for English Literature.
Carole Sharp Secondary Maths Trainer Expand Carole Sharp has been involved in the Maths training for Tutor Trust for the last two years. She has been Head of Maths in comprehensive schools for 23 years and has been involved in Maths Advisory work for the last two years. Carole has worked alongside Maths Departments in Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Yorkshire. She has worked with senior leaders and students from schools in a variety of ways including professional development for teachers and intervention for students. She has also worked with School Direct trainee teachers. Carole has accreditation from the NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Maths) for delivering professional development to teachers of both GCSE and A Level. She advises all university undergraduates who may consider teaching as a career to work with Tutor Trust as it is a great opportunity to develop the skills needed.
Anne Butler Primary Maths Trainer Expand Anne Butler has worked in Primary Education both as a teacher and consultant. She was a Maths Subject Leader before joining Manchester City Council as a numeracy consultant. Since 2008 Anne has worked as a primary numeracy consultant for her own company 3A*. She has worked for “Every Child Counts” as a co-trainer and spent a year as an associate national trainer. She supports schools to improve maths teaching and learning, working with individual teachers to support planning and delivery of maths, as well as providing whole school training to improve subject knowledge. She co-delivers training to maths subject leaders each term. She works with groups of children and individuals to foster an enjoyment and understanding of mathematics through the use of practical apparatus and a variety of games and activities.
Cath Alnuamaani Secondary Science Trainer Expand Cath graduated from Leeds University in 1997, gaining a BSc (hons) in Genetics, then studied at both the University of Bristol and Manchester gaining a PhD in Gene Therapy and Cancer Research in 2001. She completed a two year post doctoral position in Stem Cell Biology at the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research, Christies Hospital in Withington and the retrained as a teacher in 2003, gaining a PCGE from MMU. She started teaching at Trinity C of E High School in Sept 2003, and is still there! Before having her two daughters, Cath taught Physics, Biology and Chemistry to GCSE level. She was also the Head of Year 8 and then the Head of Year 9 and responsible for raising the achievement of pupils from ethnic minorities. Since returning part time, Cath now "just" teaches Science but has responsibility in the department for teaching pupils with Special Educational Needs. She is also the Enrichment Co-ordinator, ensuring that their brightest students get the opportunity to explore science outside the classroom and has close links the Universities outreach teams and STEM ambassadors. Cath also works with colleagues at Jordral Bank and the Ogden Trust. She started working with the Tutor Trust in 2012.
