Over the course of this academic year we have been following Madeehah’s journey with the Tutor Trust through her application, interview, training and first assignment. As our time following Madeehah draws to a close, we checked in one last time to reflect on her journey with us so far.

Those who have followed Madeehah’s journey over the year will know that her work with Tutor Trust has been almost entirely digital – her interview, training and even assignment took place online. Although Madeehah says that her school is well adapted to online work, lockdown itself was challenging due to school closures.  However, Madeehah made sure she used her time wisely.

It did allow me to work on my time management. I caught up on my university work and planned ahead with my lessons so that I was ready when schools re-opened again.

And of course, whether schools have been open or closed, Madeehah has received lots of support from the Tutor Trust team. We asked Madeehah to choose a time when she felt the most supported during her Tutor Trust journey:

The feedback from my lesson observation was the most useful! It was nice to know that I am doing things right, but also very useful to know what to do to improve the quality of my sessions.

And Madeehah advises all tutors, old and new, to make the most of the support that the Tutor Trust offers:

Don’t be afraid to ask for support and take every opportunity that comes your way. You’ll be surprised how much of a difference this makes.

Talking of making a difference, Madeehah has been overjoyed to see an improvement in the pupil that she works with:

I can see an increase in her confidence and perseverance and that makes me really happy! She’s no longer afraid to try questions even if she thinks she might struggle. She’s discovered that everyone makes mistakes and that these are something we can learn from.

When asked if she will continue to tutor next year, Madeehah told us:

100%. I don’t know my timetable for next year but working with Tutor Trust is really flexible so I’m not worried about fitting it in. I’ve really enjoyed watching how much my pupils gain from their sessions, so I wouldn’t want to miss out on this next year.

Finally, we asked Madeehah what her advice would be to anyone starting tutoring with Tutor Trust:

Don’t stress! Take some time to relax before your assignment and focus on a hobby. You’ll find that a relaxed attitude and a good plan will make everything fall into place when you deliver the session.

And for those of you considering applying to be a tutor, Madeehah’s advice is:

Go for it! Not only is it a chance to give something back, but it’s also a job that lets you learn more about yourself by working with a variety of people at Tutor Trust and in schools.

Thanks Madeehah. It’s been a pleasure following your progress with Tutor Trust and we can’t wait to work with you again next year.
