We have delivered extensive tuition in FE colleges including Manchester College, Tameside CollegeOldham College and Leeds College of Building.  This has involved both working with students towards GCSE resits and working on Functional Skills, trying to help them pass essential exams in English and Maths the second time around.  This is small group tuition, mirroring our work in schools with younger students.

One of our most successful and rewarding assignments has been working with Adult Learners at Rushbrook Primary Academy.  Our tutors have supported members of staff and parents as they've studied to take their GCSEs; for some, this has been an opportunity to retake the exams as they had failed them upon leaving school and never had the chance to try again.  For others, it has been an opportunity to take the exams for the very first time and try to achieve a grade that will prove hugely beneficial for their future.

In September 2016, the results for the first cohort of students came through; of the three students who sat the paper, two received a grade A and one an A*.  One of the tutors working on this assignment, Joe Billany, said he was "very proud of the students and glad everything worked out for them."

When asked to comment on the tutors in an end of year survey, CPD Leader and a member of the school's Senior Leadership Team, Clare Niederbuhl, said: "All the tutors were highly professional and effective [...] consistently went the extra mile and built up highly effective relationships with all groups of learners."

Shaun Barton, a Maths tutor who worked with several Adult Learners during the 2016/17 academic year, was very enthusiastic about the experience:

"It was amazing to see the commitment of them; putting everything they can into it and even meeting up outside the lessons to help each other study. Unlike regular tuition, where I'm one of many people teaching them throughout the week, with the adult learning classes, I was their only teacher, so I felt really appreciated."

We feel this has been a really rewarding area of tuition and would be happy to provide tutors for similar assignments in other schools.
