Quality and impact

Our mission as a charity is to transform lives through tutoring. We know that, in order to achieve this, every hour of tutoring that young people receive must make the maximum impact on their attainment and inspire enthusiasm for learning. As such, we place quality and impact at the absolute heart of our work, and it’s one of our core values:

“We are quality-focused; we strive for high professional standards in every aspect of our work to maximise the beneficial impact of tutoring. The pupils we serve deserve the very best.”

We know, from our successful large-scale Randomised Control Trial (RCT), that tutoring can make a real difference to pupils’ attainment. What’s more, the RCT, as well as our ten years of experience of partnering with schools to deliver tutoring, means that we know which factors support high-impact programmes. Our recruitment, training, quality and impact team, which includes 11 Qualified Teachers, works to ensure that:

  • We recruit those people with potential to become highly effective tutors
  • We offer top-class training and an ongoing programme of CPD
  • We work with tutors through monitoring, observations and feedback to help them deliver high-quality sessions
  • We reach those pupils who most need our support
  • We facilitate effective and seamless communication between tutors, teachers and Tutor Trust about children and young people’s learning and progress
  • We ensure that pupil attendance is high and all pupils receive enough hours of tutoring to improve their attainment
  • We continually analyse what our data is telling us and use it to improve our programmes

Our school partners consistently cite that one of the best things about working with Tutor Trust is our focus on delivering high-quality, high-impact work.

“There has been excellent regular communication. The school has developed strong relationships with the tutors and Tutor Trust itself. Tutor Trust has high expectations of the tutors. It shows an eagerness to meet the specific needs of the school and has been extremely supportive throughout the tuition period. Tutor Trust has its own independent QA process and has given immediate feedback.” Mary Henshaw, Deputy Headteacher, St Damian’s R.C. Science College
