The Tutor Trust has a rolling recruitment process, which essentially means a first come first served process.

We receive hundreds of applications, and only 25% of those who apply are successful.  We are a small, but growing charity, and have a set number of slots for interviews and even fewer places on our training course.  Due to this huge interest, we will offer places as soon as we have the right candidates.

We strongly recommend you apply sooner rather than later.  If we have the number of tutors we require before the application deadline we will close the application form.

Your application to be a tutor will progress through a number of stages:

  • Submit your online application form (you can submit for as many subjects as you’re qualified to tutor) using the link below.  Our application form was devised in partnership with Teach First and PwC and asks you to explain how you have displayed our core competencies.
  • Successful applicants are invited to interview.
  • If your interview is successful, you must attend two and a half days of training.  Training is led by qualified teacher trainers who will equip you with the skills you will need to plan engaging tuition sessions whilst thoroughly briefing you on the national curriculum and the difficulties pupils have with the subject.  Training is completely free for you.
  • You must also have a DBS check (which used to be called a CRB check) before you can work with us.  We will process and pay for this check; successful applicants will be given further information about this process.  We also pay for you to be insured.

Once you have completed these stages of recruitment, you need to tell us your availability.  We invite you to take on tuition assignments based on when you say you can work.  We ask that you work a minimum of 3 hours a week, but you’re under no obligation to take on extra work beyond that minimum.  Alternatively, you can take on as much work in as many different schools as you want.

When you are allocated a tuition assignment, there will be an initial meeting with the school.  This meeting will provide you with all the information you need to begin tuition.  After that, you are ready to start tuition!
