It’s 10 years since we started supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their academic potential. Last year, despite having to pivot our tutoring sessions from face-to-face to online, we had our busiest ever year of tutoring, supporting more than 6,300 young people in schools across Greater Manchester, Leeds-Bradford, and the Merseyside city regions.

Last year we recruited 650 fantastic individuals – students, graduates, professionals, and Qualified Teachers – who successfully trained with us to become tutors and enabled us to meet that need.  They each wanted to make a difference in their community, at the same time as learning new skills and having a flexible role that they were able to fit around their studies or other commitments.

This year, following the disruption to education by lockdowns, the demand for high-quality face-to-face tuition has increased dramatically, and we need even more highly motivated individuals to help us deliver it.

Tutor Trust Co-Founders Nick Bent, Chief Executive, and Abigail Shapiro, Executive Director, say that the need for tutors is greater now than ever, as the effects of the pandemic are still being felt.

"Lockdowns and the impact of COVID-19 on education has meant that the learning gap has widened," they said.

"Last academic year we reached more young people that ever before, but we know that there are many more out there who would benefit from a great tutor.
Now, more than ever, we need highly motivated individuals to train as tutors with us as, over the next 12 months, we’ll need around 750 to be able to reach as many, if not more, young people. It’s a golden opportunity to make a difference and be a part of the Tutor Trust success story."

We know tutoring is a rewarding career – our tutors tell us so, and their commitment to completing vital training, including that around safeguarding, demonstrates their commitment to return to the classroom.

If you would like to have a role that has flexibility, pays well (£19 to plan and deliver an hour’s tutoring) and will make a real difference to young people’s lives, we want to hear from you. If you’re a student, graduate, qualified teacher or professional looking for a change of direction, please apply and help change lives in this post-pandemic world. Along the way you’ll pick up new skills that are in high demand for any future career.

No previous experience is necessary as we offer a high-quality training programme and lots of ongoing support.  And you don’t have to want to be a teacher, as the skills you’ll learn are transferable to a wide range of sectors.

We’re interviewing every month over this academic year. If you think you fit the bill, please apply, and help make a difference.
