A tutor reads some text from a book to tutees

Welcome back!

As schools re-open after the Christmas break, and we settle into 2023, our tutors are returning to familiar classrooms – and stepping into others for the first time – across the North of England.

In the first few days of the Spring Term, our tutors have already delivered almost 300 hours of tuition in dozens of schools, accelerating pupils’ learning in English, Maths, and Science.

Tutor Theo Wakeling, who has returned to Manston Primary School in Leeds, has been impressed by his pupils’ enthusiasm for the book they are reading together, The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Raúf. Hear Theo’s thoughts on his first session back below.

Whilst Theo and many other tutors are continuing programmes begun in the autumn, others have started fresh assignments.  Those beginning programmes with new or existing school partners are using the ‘Snap Survey’, which formed the basis of our second successful Randomised Control Trial, to help them get to know their new tutees. All tutors now use the Snap Survey on new assignments as it has been proven to improve attendance and engagement.

Our tutors will be continuing to start new tuition programmes across the Greater Manchester, Leeds-Bradford and Merseyside city regions over the next few weeks as schools prepare their pupils for SATs and GCSEs.
