About our partner school

Co-op Academy Brownhill serves a diverse community, with children at the school speaking 43 languages. Almost two-thirds of pupils (62%), have been eligible for Free School Meals in the last six years.

Beverley Blanchfield, the school's Executive Headteacher, along with the teaching team, believes that education is the key to future success.

Beverley writes in the school's welcome: "We believe that all pupils can achieve and be successful both academically and socially. We have the highest expectation of pupils and staff, and we thrive on pupil success and progress.

Our work together

We have worked alongside the team at Co-op Academy Brownhill since the 2020/2021 school years, and have worked together every year since.

In that time, we have supported more than 200 pupils across Years 4, 5, and 6 in Maths and Reading, and, sometimes, in both subjects. As always, we have taken time to understand the school's needs and how best to deliver our programmes, with some of the sessions taking place after school. This is not our usual mainstream model, but it worked thanks to the support of teaching staff and the commitment of pupils to attend tuition. 

The school's Assistant Headteacher, Christina Shanks, scored our tuition programmes an average of 4.4/5 across five key metrics, including scoring us 5/5 for 'Tutors built good relationships'.

Tutor Madeleine Allen, who delivered tuition last year whilst in the final year of a BA Languages and Cultures degree at the University of Leeds, has returned to tutor Year 6 pupils in Reading at the school this year.  She joined us as a tutor in January 2023, and has since notched up more than 250 hours of high-quality tutoring in schools.

Tutor Elena Shoykova joined us as a tutor in April 2022 whilst midway through a Product Design degree at the University of Leeds. Between then and summer 2023, Elena worked as a primary tutor, the majority of the time at Co-op Academy Brownhill.

She enjoyed the tuition experience and the difference it made personally.

In 2023/2024

We are currently (at January 2024) working with 48 pupils in Year 6, to support them with Maths and Reading.
