About our partner school

St Paul’s CofE Primary School  has been a partner of ours for many years.

The school’s Christian vision – We belong, we believe, we learn, we achieve – is at the centre of all that it does.  The school stresses the importance of “building strong relationships, understanding and tolerance of others.”

The school maintained its ‘Good’ Ofsted rating when it was inspected in May 2023.

Our work together

Over the last three years, our tutors have worked alongside the school’s dedicated staff team to support more than 100 pupils in Years 5 and 6 to achieve their potential in Maths, Reading, or both subjects.  The staff team is great to work with and supportive of all that we’re doing, so much so that we featured the school, its pupils, and the teaching team in our 10th anniversary celebration video in 2021!

In the academic year 2022/2023 we worked with 30 pupils in Years 5 and 6 on their Maths.

For the Year 6 pupils who sat their SATs exams, their hard work and enthusiasm for learning paid off, with the group making an average of 9.9 scaled score points of progress.

“Tutoring is the best thing to do for practising maths and spending time with friends. Overall the best."
J, Year 5 Maths pupil

The school‘s Acting Deputy Headteacher/KS2 Phase Leader, Sarah O’Reilly, ranked us 5/5 in the five key areas of our school partner survey, including having a positive impact on pupil attainment and confidence, and enjoyment of learning.  And the tutor/tutee relationships scored equally highly.

[The tutors] Courtney and Ollie were fantastic with our children. Ollie was able to adapt his sessions for children with SEND. The feedback received from Courtney was really clear and helped the children make progress."
Sarah O'Reilly, Acting Deputy Headteacher/KS2 Phase Leader

For tutor Oliver, who worked on the assignment in the year, the impact of tutoring on pupils' confidence was great to see.

My best tuition moment was when a boy (M), who had initially cried when we began long division, came up to me a few weeks later and told me he got 100% on his test in class and that it was because of tutoring. As this continued happening, M began to enjoy having to start things that he did not know before, because we knew we would get there."

In 2023/2024

In January 2024 we started working with 25 Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, encouraging and supporting them to improve their Maths abilities.
