We’re excited to announce that our recruitment is open and we are now accepting applications from people who want to transform lives through tutoring.

We’re inviting motivated individuals who are living, working or studying in our city regions of Greater Manchester, Leeds-Bradford and Merseyside to train to tutor with us.  And those who are successful in this interview round and who complete training could be tutoring as soon as the summer holidays!

This academic year we have seen huge growth in requests from schools for tutoring – and we expect that upward trajectory to continue. So far this year our tutors have supported almost 6,500 young people in schools across the North of England, more than double the number of any year pre-2020.

The support we offer to schools and young people has a proven beneficial effect on outcomes, especially for those on Free School Meals, and the numbers of pupils receiving Free School Meals is increasing. New statistics from the Government show that there are 9 Million pupils in school. Of this number, 22.5%, or just under 1.9 Million, are eligible for free school meals (up from 20.8% in 2021).

Many schools and families are still feeling the effects of lost schooling during the lockdowns and families are facing new challenges and new barriers to equality and life outcomes for young people. We want to be as involved as possible in helping young people, families and schools overcome these barriers so that every child can reach their potential.

We have big plans for the coming years, and we need all the support we can from dedicated and passionate tutors. Tutoring isn’t just for those thinking about careers in teaching, although many of our tutors have gone on to have successful careers in the classroom. At Tutor Trust we have a diverse pool of tutors at various stages of their careers who share a common interest in making meaningful change to the young people in their communities.

The benefits of tutoring include:

  • A very competitive rate of pay – a minimum of £20* (£27 for Qualified Teachers*) to plan and deliver a tutoring session.
  • Each tutor receives a minimum of £300* (£405 for QTs*) for every standard assignment of 15 hours. This applies to all face-to-face and online sessions.
  • Job satisfaction - Our tutors love working with us and find the work hugely rewarding.
  • Flexibility – tutors can apply for assignments that fit with their studies or other commitments.
  • Sociability – our tutors have chance to meet like-minded people
