Jo Meredith (She/Her) Director of Tutoring Plus Expand Jo joined Tutor Trust in January 2019 as Quality Manager, responsible for our work in Alternative Provision. After graduating from Bangor University Jo began her career as a teacher of Chemistry. Jo has over 20 years’ experience in senior leadership including Headship, with wide-ranging involvement in both mainstream and Alternative Provision settings. Having worked in senior positions in both mainstream and Alternative Provision settings across Greater Manchester, Jo is well placed to lead and drive the quality of teaching and learning in the Department for Education funded project in Alternative Provision, ‘The Right Angle’, in collaboration with TLC; Talk, Listen Change. Jo is now Director of Tutoring Plus (formerly Alternative Provision and Looked After Children), which provides a bespoke service of one-to-one tutoring and other supportive interventions for the children and young people with even greater barriers to overcome than their peers.
Penny Mitchell (She/Her) Tutoring Plus Manager Expand Penny started as a Primary and Secondary English tutor in 2016 during her second year at University of Manchester. Since then she has enjoyed conducting tuition in numerous schools and across a range of ages, as well as advocating for The Tutor Trust at University. She has always been actively involved in roles and projects that help young people to develop their confidence and it was the core values of compassion and equality that initially drew her to the Charity. She is excited to continue to be a part of The Tutor Trust as a member of the office.
Craig Rose (He/Him) Tutoring Plus Coordinator Expand Craig was appointed as an Alternative Provision and Looked After Children Coordinator in November 2021. He had been a full-time tutor with us for several months, following his graduation from the University of Manchester with a degree in Drama and English Literature.Whilst studying, Craig had worked with Tutor Trust for almost four years as a part-time tutor and Outreach Team member. Alongside his studies, Craig was a committee member for his university Comedy Society and enjoyed running workshops and organising stand-up nights for charity. Craig strongly believes that positive role models are essential to the success of young people and is committed to inspiring ambitions in pupils from all backgrounds.
Hamza Rana (He/Him) Tutoring Plus Coordinator Expand Hamza joined the Tutor Trust as a Tutoring Plus Coordinator in October 2022. Whilst studying for his English Literature degree at the University of Oxford, Hamza worked for a number of non-profit organisations targeted at improving access to education for pupils from unrepresented backgrounds. Having been a passionate tutor throughout his time at university and since graduating, Hamza knows first-hand the transformational effects that both tutoring and mentoring have for all pupils, most especially those facing extra challenges compared to their peers and is excited to continue working towards a future where all young people have the support that they require to reach and exceed their goals and potential.
Vivienne Taylor-Brown (She/They/Her/Their) Manchester Full-Time Tutor Expand Vivienne began working as a Full-Time Tutor for The Tutor Trust in September 2022. After graduating from the University of Liverpool with a BA in English Literature and French they gained experience in youth work, literacy interventions, social enterprise and library services and have worked with children and young people aged eight to 25. They have trained to tutor Secondary English, Primary Reading and Primary Maths and are passionate about supporting traditionally marginalized young people to achieve academic success.
Sarah Thrussell (She/Her) Tutoring Plus Full-Time Tutor Expand Sarah joined the Tutor Trust in October 2017 after graduating from the University of Manchester with a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy. Since then she has tutored both Primary and Secondary Maths across a variety of schools in Greater Manchester. She has also enjoyed taking part in previous Tutor Trust projects including the Transition Project and working with The Teenage Cancer Trust. After tutoring part-time in Alternative Provision, Sarah has decided to pursue tutoring in this area of education on a full-time basis as she believes this is one of the areas that tuition can have the biggest impact.
