A quick guide on how to register as self-employed By Danielle Putinja ⏱ Wednesday 4th Janaury 2023 You may be here as you're looking to become a tutor with us, or you've passed your interview and completed your training (in which case, congratulations!). As you’ll be self-employed when working with us as a tutor, you will now need to register for a self-employed tax number. It sounds intimidating, but is actually easier than you think. The HMRC website is easy to use and the process is simple and straightforward. To register, follow the link: https://www.gov.uk/set-up-sole-trader and click on Register for Self Assessment. You will be asked to create a login for the registration process using your full name and email and given options on what kind of tax account to set up. Click on option two, Self-Assessment Tax Return. After your login is created you will be given a Government Gateway User ID. This ID number will also be emailed to you. Hang on to the email as you will need this ID any time you log in to your tax account. Once you sign in using this ID, choose the option “I want to tell HRMC that I am in business and register for new tax,” and click “Self Assessment” on the next page. Choose your type of business as Self Employed/ Sole Trader/ Sole Proprietor. From here all you will need to do is fill in your personal details, including name, address, date of birth and National Insurance Number. You will also be asked to fill in the type of work you will be doing as a business (Primary/Secondary Tuition will do) and the date you started. Once this is submitted you will review your application before officially registering. Once you hit approve, you are automatically enrolled for Self Assessment. You’ll receive a confirmation email, and your tutoring business will be up and running! Now you’re ready to log onto Connect and find your first assignment and start work as a Tutor. If you need any support with starting your first assignment, get in touch with your Schools Coordinator, or Ellie Cross ([email protected]), our Tutor Engagement Manager. And if you're interested in applying to become a tutor, you can find our vacancies and apply here. Good luck on your Tutor Trust journey! Date of publication: 15/03/2021 Manage Cookie Preferences
