Tutor Trust is pleased to have been able to support thousands of pupils ahead of their final SATs and GCSEs again this academic year, with tuition taking place up to and throughout exam season to ensure that pupils attain the grades that will help transform their lives for the better.

Last year, disadvantaged pupils who received our tuition programme made excellent progress and narrowed the attainment gap with their peers and we are hopeful to see our pupils have similar success this year.

  • In SATs, 69% of disadvantaged pupils we worked with achieved the Expected Standard in reading and 65% did in maths compared to 62% and 61% respectively in our local authorities
  • In GCSEs, 62% of disadvantaged pupils achieved a Grade 4 in maths, 59% in English and 62% in science compared to 48%, 56% and 46% respectively in our local authorities

Young people who have finished tuition with us this year have already explained the positive impact they feel tuition has had on them ahead of exams. When asked to explain their feeling about their tuition, our pupils said:

Because I feel that I’m finding my gaps in knowledge a lot more than in lessons as the gaps are being targeted and it’s making me feel more confident to revise and fill in those gaps of knowledge”
Year 11 maths pupil in Cheshire
Because it is making me feel more confident about my SATs and making me answer more questions”
Year 6 maths pupil in Greater Manchester
Because it gives me a better chance of getting the best grades that I can”

And the progress made by their pupils has also been apparent to the tutors who have delivered tuition this year.

One of my best tutoring moments was when a student worked really hard to understand angles in polygons. After practising together, they not only understood the topic but actually began to enjoy it. Seeing their confidence grow was incredibly rewarding, and it motivated them to work even harder on other areas they previously struggled with so they could continue improving and excelling in maths.”
Aaisha Aftab (Maths tutor in West Yorkshire)

We know our tutors have worked incredibly hard this year to support our pupils taking exams this year so we would also like to thank them for all of their hard work helping young people through some of the most challenging stages of their academic careers.
