We know what an inspiring bunch our tutors are! They encourage their young learners to unlock their potential, tailor sessions around their pupils’ interests to make them relevant, and above all, make tuition fun and engaging.

We are the biggest cheerleaders for our amazing tutors, supporting them to deliver high-quality tuition in every session, encouraging them to be their best and offering them access to a huge portfolio of tutoring and training resources, CPD opportunities and tutorials throughout their time tutoring for us. We receive great feedback from their tutees and school partners about our tutors’ incredible work.

So, it’s appropriate, that, at the end of a busy year, we come together to celebrate our fantastic tutors.  As well as our Summer Reception, June is also the month of our Tutor Awards – a series of fun-packed events across our three city regions to thank these inspiring individuals for all that they are doing.

All winners were chosen by our regional teams of coordinators taking into account feedback from school partners and tutees.

Greater Manchester Tutor Awards

Our Greater Manchester Awards were held at Manahata. Our Tutor of the Year was the amazing Lisa Matthews, a former teacher who has been working for the last year in primary schools across Salford. Merseyside Schools' Manager Aaron Hughes worked closely with Lisa in his former role, and noted how Lisa joined the Transition Tutor team at a challenging time and took it all in her stride. He wrote: "Lisa hit the ground running with her sessions, working, in some cases, on a 1:1 basis with some of the children taking part. Lisa formed a great relationship with the school which specifically requested her again for the following academic year. Alongside this, Lisa continued working with her former tutees on the project within their new secondaries, a new environment to which she took to professionally and successfully. Lisa is a dependable, reliable and empathetic tutor, and she is an all-round fantastic individual who I have also learned a lot from. Thank you, Lisa."

Merseyside Tutor Awards

Over in Merseyside, our team celebrated at the famous Liverpool Philharmonic Dining Rooms (where Sir Paul once played!). Tutor of the Year was the phenomenal Chris Lynn. The team wrote: "Chris has been an exceptional tutor since starting his journey at Tutor Trust. He has cemented himself as a reliable, confident and empathetic tutor who the Merseyside Team wholeheartedly trust. Navigating some challenging assignments, Chris has always risen to the challenge and incorporated unique and innovative methods of tailoring his sessions to match the needs of the children, whilst ensuring positive engagements underlie each set task. We hope Chris continues supporting the local children of Merseyside into next year and beyond. Thank you on behalf of the Merseyside Team for all your hard work and commitment so far.’"

Leeds-Bradford Tutor Awards

And our Leeds-Bradford Team, took the chance to connect and celebrate at The Adelphi in Leeds. Tutor of the Year for Bradford was the amazing Madiha Waheed and, for Leeds, the wonderful Justine Hardisty.

In his nomination for Madiha, Simon Kirsima, Schools Manager, wrote: "Madiha has such an amazing relationship with her pupils. She makes the children smile every time she tutors - which is such an incredible skill to possess. I have observed her tutoring multiple times and come away blown away by her qualities to teach, inspire and excite. It has been an absolute pleasure to have you as part of the Leeds-Bradford team and thank you for a wonderful year where you have transformed so many lives through tutoring."

And Becky McNutt's nomination for Justine was equally glowing. She said: "Justine is an outstanding tutor who has done some incredible work for us this year. She consistently works hard to deliver high-quality lessons, fosters close relationships with the schools she works in, and we have received wonderful feedback about her from our school partners, pretty much all of whom have requested her back next year.

"As well as being an outstanding tutor, Justine is multi-talented. Her art skills have been really useful in planning some fun art activities as part of an upcoming summer school at Bishop Young. Justine always puts her all into every part of working for The Tutor Trust, which is why she’s such an amazing tutor. She’s had a huge impact on the pupils she has taught, and we’re thrilled to have her as part of the team. Well done to Justine, our Leeds Tutor of the Year!"

Justine wrote to the team afterwards to say she had loved meeting other tutors and winning an award had been unexpected, but an 'amazing honour'. She added: "I would like to thank you all so much for the incredible support you have given me over the last year. My journey with Tutor Trust has been a life-changing experience which I am very much looking forward to continuing next year."

Other awards given at the three events included Best Primary Tutor, Best Secondary Tutor, Best Alternative Provision / Looked After Child Tutor, Best Science Tutor, Best Maths Tutor and Best English Tutor, as well as Best MESME Tutor, plus Lifesaver, Newcomer, and Commitment Awards.
