Our community members are champions of tutoring. They understand that we can help to reduce the attainment gap by making tutoring more accessible to those who need it most.

Together, we aim to advocate for change in the education system so that every child gets a fair start. The Tutor Trust Community is an organised group of former tutors who have chosen to continue supporting Tutor Trust, to strive for a fairer education system and to reduce the attainment gap. The community recognises that some 16-year-olds in the North leave school up to 21 months behind their peers and seeks to continue advocating to mitigate the effects of disadvantage on education.

Our Community of former tutors

Tutor Trust was founded as a charity in 2011. The number of tutors we have recruited and trained across the North is in the thousands. Today, we are calling out to every tutor who has worked with us to help us make a real change.

You may have worked for Tutor Trust as a student, giving your time to help others and to fight educational inequality. We continue to be joined by the belief that a child’s postcode shouldn’t dictate their opportunity to make great progress.

Celebrating our tutors

Our tutors have a remarkable history of actively challenging educational inequality. In the last 14 years, we have reached over 48,800 young people, and every one of those young people had the academic support they needed as a result of our tutors' dedication and hard work. Our tutors have a can-do attitude, with strong values that led them to work for a charity, often as students.

Our former tutors are ambitious, and they are forward-thinking about their careers. This is their opportunity now to reconnect with Tutor Trust.

Why join the Tutor Trust Community?

Many of our former tutors have gone on to brilliant careers, and networking is key in 2026, with 70-80% of jobs filled through word of mouth, networking, and internal postings. By joining the Tutor Trust Community, you'll connect with a wide range of professionals who all share the common experience of tutoring with us. But the benefits of joining extend far beyond a great opportunity to network...

What else will you benefit from by joining the Tutor Trust Community?

  • Celebrate our achievements together and feel good about your contribution to our mission of transforming young lives.
  • Advocate for young people who are not from wealthy backgrounds to have access to tutoring.
  • Learn from and listen to your peers, create opportunities for each other. Make real change together.
  • Hear from Tutor Trust on our innovative projects and our work and research carried out across the North.

What’s next?

Last year, we launched our 3-year strategy, which looks to support more of our most vulnerable young people and work more closely with Universities that our former tutors may have attended. Our partnerships with 16 universities over the last 14 years have created a strong connection between our charity and the student communities that work with us. We will continue to provide tutoring in communities close to campuses and promote students’ sense of place as they give back to their local area.

We’re fighting to end educational inequality in the UK, and we need your help. We want our past tutors to feel proud of their time working alongside us and use their experience to help us advocate for change. We want our tutors to be aware of the ground-breaking difference they made in providing tutoring to children across the North who needed it the most.

Now is the time to celebrate the achievements of our tutors but also to support the work we have planned and the work we are doing today to make tutoring even more accessible.  We would love for as many former tutors as possible to get in touch through the LinkedIn group. Currently a group of 70, we’re aiming to reach 100 members on LinkedIn before the end of this academic year.
