Maths Week 2023 – 17 November 2023 This week, we have been celebrating all things Maths with our schools, tutors and colleagues. Maths is such a big part of the work that we do, and this has been a great opportunity for everyone to get involved. Maths Week England was set up by Andrew Jeffrey, a former Maths Teacher with extensive experience in Maths teaching and curriculum, to spark conversations about Maths across the world, making Maths fun and accessible to all and helping young learners bring out the Mathematicians in them. We kicked off on Monday with the first of five daily Maths puzzles on Instagram, designed to get the brain working! These were taken from ’30 Maths Starters’ provided by Subtangent Maths, one of our favourite resources we signpost to tutors for them to use in sessions. Our tutors have a whole host of tools and resources available on our online learning platform, including lesson plans, worksheets and tutorials, all designed to engage our learners. One thing we really wanted to shout about this week was Maths Circles, which is a programme we run in partnership with MESME (Mathematics Education for Social Mobility and Excellence) designed to stretch higher prior attainers and encourage them to take up Maths at university. Over the past year, we've partnered with 16 schools and 215 young people on this programme. Watch the video below to hear more about the programme from our tutor Fiona, who also shares her personal Maths Circles tutoring highlight. Math Weeks follows the launch of our KS4 Maths Foundations scheme of work, designed to support borderline Year 10 and 11 students who are working at grade 3 in GCSE Maths to a grade 4 or 5.
