Another record-breaking academic year! – 27 July 2022 We have had another record-breaking year here at Tutor Trust, and we couldn’t be more proud of the work our tutors, staff team, Trustees and all our supporters, school partners and tutees have put in, and the part each has played in ‘transforming lives through tutoring’. And, as we reflect on a year that has seen us celebrate our milestone 10th anniversary and build on the amazing impact we had last academic year, we are also looking ahead. Our Trustees have just approved our ambitious Three-Year Plan, which takes us to 2024/2025. In that we have clear targets to double the number of young people we tutor – from 6,500 in 2021/2022 to 13,000 by the end of 2024/2025, so that even more can go on to achieve their potential. Hear from Assistant Principal Paul Jennings of Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds about the difference tutoring has made in his school: This year, we have already delivered all that we said we would, and more. To date: Our tutors have delivered some 35,000 hours of high-quality tuition – up more than a quarter (27%) from the 27,594 hours of last year, We have supported 6,579 young people to achieve their potential in English, Maths and Science, We have partnered with 197 schools across the Greater Manchester, Leeds-Bradford and Merseyside city regions, We have recruited 401 individuals, over 12 recruitment rounds, to train as tutors with us, and, We have given 406 tutors a £20 bonus for completing their first tutoring session, and given 264 a £100 bonus for delivering 30 hours of tuition. In the year, we also reached some special milestones: September 2021: We celebrated the 10th anniversary of becoming a charity, November 2021: We announced our partnership with the University of Liverpool Maths School to deliver the MESME project, to support maths stars of the future, December 2021: We announced our partnership with The Prince’s Trust, December 2021: We launched our new schools’ portal, Insight, which gives almost real-time data on tuition sessions, February 2022: We celebrated 10 years since delivering our first tuition session, in Whalley Range High School for Girls in Greater Manchester, March 2022: Research from ImpactEd, showed that The Right Angle project, a collaboration between us and sister charity, TLC: Talk Listen, Change, has real impact. The Right Angle offers tuition alongside counselling, helping marginalised young people unlock their learning and academic potential. May 2022: We opened our new Leeds-Bradford office in the heart of the city centre, June 2022: We held our first Summer Reception in three years and celebrated our 10th anniversary, at The Whitworth in Manchester. June 2022: The University of Manchester presented us with a commemorative plaque, ‘In recognition of valued partnership in teacher education’. As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations, our special anniversary Impact Report shared our achievements of the last decade. June 2022: We achieved strong results from a second Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) randomised control trial (RCT), the gold standard for evidence of impact. The trial proved the importance of the tutor-tutee relationship in improving attendance of the tutee. Tutor Trust is now unique in the UK education sector in having successful results from two RCTs to our name. Our plan for the next three years is a continued trajectory of growth and development. We are ambitious for ourselves and for the pupils we support, and that is reflected in our Three-Year Plan for 2022/23 to 2024/25. We have developed this with our partners at Impetus, who have provided us with pro bono support for this process from Evelyn Partners (formerly Smith & Williamson). We are aiming to double the number of pupils we serve to around 13,000 by 2024/25, the third year of the Three-Year Plan; we have exceeded our target of 6,500 pupils in 2021/22. Cumulatively, this would mean a 25% increase in pupil numbers year-on-year from 1st September 2022 onwards. We know that we have the opportunity to work with more schools and support more pupils across our current cities. Given that we doubled our pupil numbers in 2020/21 at very short notice and at the height of the pandemic, we believe that a 25% year-on-year increase is eminently doable. Our headline target for year three also includes doubling our numbers of Looked After Children and those in Alternative Provision, whom we plan to serve through our ‘Tutoring Plus’ proposals.
