An evening of success for The Tutor Trust at North West Charity Awards! - 20th September 2019 Tutor Trust are delighted to have been awarded “Highly Commended” in the ‘North West Charity of the Year Award’ category for the first time and are immensely grateful to have our work recognised by event organisers, North West Charity Awards. The Awards took place at the impressive Principal Hotel in Manchester. Guests arrived for drinks and a three-course meal ahead of the award ceremony, which took place on the evening of Friday 27th September. Charities from across the North West were invited to recognise and celebrate the amazing work done by the third sector in the region over the past year. The ‘Charity of the Year’ award goes to the “charity or voluntary sector organisation that has had a truly exceptional year and whose recent achievements have attracted the admiration of the sector.” This award follows a huge year of success and development for the Tutor Trust. In February 2019, the Education Endowment Foundation announced The Tutor Trust as one of their Promising Projects, following a randomised control trial conducted in the 2016/17 academic year. The trial found that pupils who received maths tuition before Year 6 SATs outperformed a control group, making on average three months additional progress. Progress was particularly accelerated for disadvantaged pupils, providing clear evidence of our impact on closing the attainment gap. We also embarked on a project with partner charity TLC: Talk Listen Change to provide tuition and counselling for students in Alternative Provision following the Department for Education’s announcement that it would provide us with £500,000 of funding. In the 2018/19 academic year, we recruited more tutors than ever and delivered over 20,000 hours of tuition across Greater Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool. To be awarded “Highly Commended” for ‘Charity of the Year Award’ is the perfect way to end a year of incredible accomplishments for the Tutor Trust. This is the fourth time the Tutor Trust have been recognised through charity awards, with past successes including ‘Best New Charity in Britain’ at the Charity Times Awards in 2016. To add another accolade to our list of achievements is testament to the continued progress the Tutor Trust makes year after year. One of our Co-founders, Nick Bent, was in attendance for the award ceremony and had this to say: “Abigail and I are proud of our whole team. As Mancunians leading a Manchester born and bred charity that is now doing high quality education work in scores of schools across the North, this fresh recognition is just brilliant.” The Tutor Trust would like to thank North West Charity Awards for hosting such a fantastic event and for acknowledging our work as “Highly Commended” for the ‘Charity of the Year Award’; we would also like to thank all the tutors, schools, partners and pupils that helped us to have our most successful year of tuition yet - this award is of course for all of you as well!
