With demand for our high-quality tuition continuing to increase, the partnerships with our city region’s universities and their talented students and graduates are now more crucial than ever.

Which is why we are delighted to have appointed Dr Will Simms as our first University Partnerships Manager.  Will, formerly a Secondary Schools Coordinator for Tutor Trust, will build on our already strong partnerships with universities across Greater Manchester, Leeds, Merseyside and Bradford to ensure a steady pipeline of highly motivated students and graduates who want to train as tutors with us.

With his vast experience of university life – Will studied English Literature at the University of Manchester from undergraduate to doctorate – Will is excited about his new role and returning to campus to meet careers and employability teams who share our vision of supporting young people to achieve their potential.

“I know first-hand the transformative effects of education and I owe much of this to my time at Manchester in the company of brilliant teachers and students,” says Will.

“I’ll be looking to continue the great relationships we have fostered over the past decade while building others across new departments and schools. This will help ensure that the world-class research and teaching happening across the North reaches those most in need of role models and inspiration.

“Our tutors do amazing work across our four cities, not only raising aspirations but ensuring young-people have the ability to achieve their dreams. I’m delighted to be able to help more of them to do that.”

Our tutees are not the only beneficiaries of tuition, our tutors are too.  Not only are they rewarded with a competitive rate of pay, but tutoring enables them to develop key workplace skills for whatever career they pursue after university.  Our tutors also tell us about the more intangible rewards gained in the classroom, when they see a previously shy pupil grow in confidence, suddenly understand a tricky topic, or have their love of education reignited.

“Tutoring with us is a great opportunity for students to do something amazing in their local community,” Will add.  “I’m keen to spread the message of all the benefits as widely as possible, so that more students can benefit from the opportunity.”
