Quarry Mount Primary School is a one-form entry, inner-city school in Woodhouse, Leeds serving approximately 100 pupils receiving Pupil Premium funding (in 2016/17).

The school was in the control group as part of the randomised control trial we carried out in Year 6 Maths tuition, funded by the Education Endowment Foundation, in the 2016/17 academic year.  Since then, one of our tutors – Ashley Ward – supported five pupils in Year 6 who all achieved age-related expectations in their KS2 Maths SATs in 2018.  He said, “Working at Quarry Mount has been great, it’s given me experience ready for a career in teaching and seeing the progress that the children made last year was very fulfilling."  Sarah Scotland, the school’s Deputy Head, commented,

“Ashley has worked closely with the school staff to tailor the tuition to match the individual needs of our pupils. This has contributed to the success of our students in Maths, strengthening both their knowledge and confidence dramatically. Working with the Tutor Trust has definitely contributed to the rapid whole school improvement we've seen in recent years.”

About Ashley in particular, Sarah also added, “Thank you for your hard work, clear communication and dedication...” Ashley continues to support a new cohort of Year 6 pupils at Quarry Mount this academic year too.  He was “…delighted to be asked to return to the school and continue to get to know the staff and help the children progress.”
